‘You who follow us everywhere…’

Tottenham Hotspur footballer Cristian Romero has aplogised for the fans and said other people from the club too should be coming out and speaking after the side’s 3-2 defeat against Bournemouth. This was Tottenham’s eighth straight defeat in the league this season.

“Apologies to all fans of you who follow us everywhere, who are always there and will continue to be. We are responsible, there’s no doubt about that. I am the first. But we will keep facing up to it and trying to turn the situation around, for ourselves and for the club,” Romero wrote on his Instagram account.

“At times like this, it should be other people coming out to speak, but they don’t — as has been happening for several years now. They only show up when things are going well,” he said.

“We’ll stay here, working, sticking together and giving our all to turn things around. Especially at times like this, keeping quiet, working harder and moving forward all together, is part of football. Altogether, it will be easier @spursofficial 🤍,” Romero added.

This was not the first time Romero vented his frustration in public formats. After the defeat against Manchester City in December, Romero, speaking to the US publication Telemundo Deportes, said: “Manchester City competes every year, you see how Liverpool strengthens its squad, Chelsea strengthens their squad, doesn’t do well, strengthens again, and now they’re seeing results. Those are the things to imitate. You have to realize that something is going wrong, hopefully, they realize it.

“The last few years, it’s always the same: first, the players, then the coaching staff changes, and it’s always the same people responsible. Hopefully, they realize who the true responsible ones are, and we move forward because it’s a beautiful club that, with the structure it has, could easily be competing for the title every year.”
