England were left fuming at the end of Dayn 1 of the third Ashes Test in Adelaide after Australia’s Alex Carey survived after the “Snicko” review technology failed to pick up an apparent nick off the wicketkeeper-batter’s bat. Carey went on to score a century before falling on 106 off 143 balls. Notably, Carey himself admitted that there may have been an edge and the technology should’ve picked it up while England bowling coach David Saker indicated that the visitors may raise the matter with the match officials.
“The boys are pretty confident he hit it. I think the calibration of the ‘Snicko’ is out,” the Australian told reporters after England toiled through a sweltering day in the field. Australia were 326/8 at Stumps. “It was a pretty important decision. Those things hurt. You’d think in this day and age the technology’s good enough to pick things up like that.”

Snicko operator takes “full responsibility”
Meanwhile, Snicko operator BBG Sports has said that it takes “full responsibility” for the error considering Carey admitted to have got a nick. “Given that Alex Carey admitted he had hit the ball in question, the only conclusion that can be drawn from this, is that the Snicko operator at the time must have selected the incorrect stump mic for audio processing,” BBG told BBC Sport. “In light of this, BBG Sports takes full responsibility for the error.”
Carey was asked about the incident in the press conference after the day’s play. “I thought there was a bit of a feather or some sort of noise when it passed the bat. It looked a bit funny on the replay, didn’t it, with the noise coming early? If I were given out, I think I would have reviewed it – probably not confidently, though. It was a nice sound as it passed the bat, yeah.
“Snicko obviously didn’t line up, did it? That’s just the way cricket goes sometimes, isn’t it? You have a bit of luck, and maybe it went my way today,” said Carey.
