The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Tuesday cancelled two BPL matches scheduled on the day, following the death of former prime minister of the country, Khaleda Zia. The two matches which were called off were Sylhet Titans and Chattogram Royals at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium as well as Dhaka Capitals vs Rangpur Riders.
“In respect of the nation’s mourning following the passing of Begum Khaleda Zia, today’s BPL T20 matches have been cancelled. Revised fixtures will be announced in due course,” the BCB said in a statement.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board joins the whole country in profound grief at this great loss and extends its heartfelt condolences. We pray for the eternal peace of her soul,” the board had posted earlier.
Zia, Bangladesh’s first woman PM, passed away on Tuesday, December 30, at 6 AM. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party announced her death in a Facebook post. She was 80. Zia served as Bangladesh’s prime minister three times — 1991-96, briefly in 1996, and again from 2001-06 — and is widely remembered for expanding access to education and initiating key economic and administrative reforms.
Zia’s death comes just before the February 12 polls scheduled next year. Zia was suffering from advanced cirrhosis of the liver, diabetes, arthritis, and chest and heart problems. She was admitted to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on November 23, where she breathed her last.
