South Africa announce squad for T20 World Cup; Tristan Stubbs and Ryan Rickelton miss out | Cricket News

T20 World Cup 2024 runners-up South Africa on Friday announced their 15-player squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup set to be jointly hosted by defending champions India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8. Aiden Markram will be leading the side while Corbin Bosch, Dewald Brevis, Tony de Zorzi, Donovan Ferreira, George Linde, Kwena Maphaka, and Jason Smith also get their maiden T20 World Cup call-ups after impressing in recent series.

In a bit of a surprise, big hitter Tristan Stubbs was left out along with opener Ryan Rickelton while Quinton de Kock got a place in the squad. Kagiso Rabada, who missed the recent white ball series against India due to a rib injury, returned to the T20I setup.

After losing the recent T20I series 3-1 against India at the fag end of last year, the Proteas will next welcome West Indies for a 3-match T20I series, set to start from Jan 27 and go on till January 31. After that, they will head straight to the World Cup where they are drawn in Group D alongside Afghanistan, Canada, New Zealand and the United Arab Emirates, and will begin their campaign on February 9 against Canada in Ahmedabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

They will then face Afghanistan on February 11 and New Zealand on February 14 in the same venue and then end their Group commitments against UAE on February 18 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
